A whole new discovery or is it?

It seems that something is only something if somebody from one of the Big 1st World countries say it is.
As a child growing up on my little island, my mother always had us drinking, using, eating some kinda bush.

Doh be fooled all them bush and concoction that our parents forced on us  back in the day, are being used  by all these pharmaceutical companies in their products but they fancyfy the name, so you think is some major breakthrough.

Why did our parents do it? Because it was good for you. I doh mean no Broccoli or cauliflower and dem kinda things, I never hear about dem things until I come to Canada all those years ago. I talking about Karela/Bitter Lemon and soursop leaves and others.
You have an earache, warm up a wonder of the world leaf and squeeze the juice in yuh ear. Have a cold? Go pick that leaf over dey and squeeze out that NASTY tasting green liquid and drink a tablespoon. I mean that thing was so nasty dat you would drink a cup of Buckley’s and think is sugar. Uuuuhhhhhgggghhhh!!!! I still get shivers thinking about it, I can almost taste it. The minute you start feeling sick, yuh know what coming but yuh had no place to run cause yuh had to come back home.

Everybody waking round now with some kinda infusion thing. We used to drink them things. We called it cooling, used cucumber and all kinda things to, you guessed it , clean out yuh system. Nobody was block up because she used to give usa purge at least twice a year. So everything that in there have to come out. #systemclean
Peanut butter in a drink? That’s right! We call it Peanut punch. Again not new. You can make it with actual peanuts but if you lazy like me, peanut butter will do the job. Oh gosh that peanut putter we used to buy in the bag.

The world discover Avocado Toast. Ammm… we eating bread  and Zaboca(sorry Avocado) ever since I was old enough to eat bread. It ain’t new people!

Oh lord we cyah forget coconut oil. God forbid the people who actually live in the countries where the coconut actually grows would get some kinda credit for knowing and using coconut oil. Dr Oz come out and talk about coconut oil and is like whhhhaaaaa?????? Did you know you can … with coconut oil? Why yes, I did, since I was a baby my dear. Yes, we drink the water too. Oh gosh I just had a vison of some brown sugar, sugar cake. Tulipp!!!! Get to it!!!
Is like these young people with dey Havana twist, is blasted corkscrew these people and dem talking about. When my children mention something, you would swear is new. Dem just thief we thing and call it a new name and is like a new discovery. Except it ain’t!.
