Must Love Mondays -Mother knows best

For the flower lady!

An even better reason to love Mondays. Today my mother would have been 87 years old.  We never really know what our parents did/do for us until we become parents ourselves.

I lost my mother in March of 2014. I was completely taken by surprise, since I had spoken to her only a few days prior and she seemed in good spirits.  She was a great woman, she was a strong woman and as I thing about her birthday today and the call I would have made to her, I also think about my childhood.

As kids we always thought that we could out smart out parents. Never remembering that they to were once kids.

Here’s a couple of stories about my mother that I would like to share.

Two of my older sisters travel to school every day. Yes!!!  It was alotta miles to and from school and yes, it involved walking.  My mother’s explicit instruction was to come home after school. No hanging around, come straight home. I was a given that you would be in school when you were supposed to be.  My sisters decided they were going to skip school.  So there they were two school girls playing in the park, jumping off of a park bench, then a report comes walking by.

He sees these two young girls having fun, . He snaps a picture of these two happy girls, jumping off the bench. The girls go home happy as can be because of course how can Mammy find out, so they think they got away with it.

The next day the newspaper comes out, they printed a little feel good picture of, you guessed it, two little girls having a fun playing in the park. Two girls, who were supposed to be in school,  two little girls who had a very interesting time trying to explain to Mama why there were there in the first place! Let’s just say that was one of those days when you were glad you had a grandmother to save you. Their picture was cut out of the newspaper and  framed!

As for me,  I had finally graduated from Primary school, I was now a Secondary school student. All of 12 years old, no longer a little kid.  No mother  showing up unexpectedly, no neighbours to see me do something I should not be doing or be someplace I should not be.

My school was far away from home, “in Town”, as we called it. My mother’s rules was the same, go to school, stay in school, leave school only to come home once school is over.

My new friend Gina talked me into going into walking around town at lunch time. We big right we could do what ever we wanted. Well she didn’t really have to try very hard. My mother was miles away, right? How would she know. So why not?

I kid you not, we walked out of the school that lunch time, I was so excited. I was a rebel, Mother? Rules? Please!!!  I walked two blocks almost got to the corner, who do I see turn the corner walking directly towards me? My mother!!! I was one second from peeing myself because I knew what was coming. Suddenly I was wasn’t big no more,  I could smell the cutass coming! The only thing that saved me from getting a cutass right then and there in the middle of town, was my sister. Well you know party done right! I think it was about 3 years before I  tried it again. Needless to say still paranoid but loving the Independence.

This Must Love Monday I dedicate to the memory of my mother. Her strength, her independence, her always knowing and me thinking that I could not pull  one over on her. The awesome woman she was, the strength she pass on to her children, grand, great-grands and great-great-grands before she move on.
Always  love you mama!!!!

 Joy
All positive! Love Mondays!

Hating Mondays is like hating birthdays. What would you do if today you were told you would never see another one?

Have A Marvelous Monday

  1. The thing is we Caribbean people all have those stories of growing up…we only understand the love when we mature and mostly when we have a family of our own….and at the end of the day we are better for it#familymatriach#misseddearly#lessons learnt#
