Friday Funnies – The sands of time and the importance of nothing.

Not really funny ha! ha!

I am not a celebrity stalker, if fact I take the majority of them with a grain of salt. I consider them to be just people, people with money but people nonetheless. Some of them ,you tend to adopt as part of your life, even though they have no idea you even exists. Some you mourn like they were one of your own. Others it’s just a, “So sad”.

Yesterday we lost a great artists.Rip!

Time passes and somehow there is always a part of us that stays in the past. A past were we were happier and more carefree before that dreaded word “responsibility”, took over our lives. My memories of Prince are stuck in the 80’ , 90’s and early 2000’s. Just like Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Percy Sledge and others, I liked his music.  I was definitely happy, not a care in the world, partying (responsibly) with my sisters.
When these sudden deaths occur, it shakes you. I don’t’ mean because he was a celebrity, I mean because he was here one minute and then just gone. We all have someone we know that this has happened to. Then you stop and think about your mortality.

We go through life mostly oblivious to that fact that time is precious and ticking away,  until something jolts you. Children are good reminders of what time really means. As significant as their music was to me, it’s just a drop in the pond to the younger generations. Most of the times, they have no idea who these people are/were. They of course may have heard some of their music but they don’t have the same connection. Therefore the loss is inconsequential to them.

“I was here”. Some of us leave an incredible mark on the world, a mark that will go on for a long time after we are gone. That mark could be on millions or that mark can be on just one. Regardless we all want to be remembered for something noteworthy.

We have become a generation of “things”. We spend a lot of time accumulating “things”. Things that we consider to be important. Things that we must have. Things that we feel makes us important. Things we attribute much importance to and most importantly things, that when you are gone will probably not have the same importance to the person you either leave it to or the person who takes it.

Every time I go back to my little island to visit my family, I am struck by the same thing. I remember as a child, the kids in the neighborhood would make a mango run and “thief (steal) mangoes ” . These mangoes were amazing and definitely worth thiefing.   Of course the owners of the property did want these rift raft on their property so we have to sneak in, climb the tree, pick the mangoes, look out for the guard dog, guards and yes even killer turkeys!!!. Then make a run for it when the lookout saw or heard any movement. We would suck those mangoes until the it was white. Damn, I can taste it now! Ahhh!! Those were the days ? Now, those awful people who could not share a mango with little kids are all dead. Their children moved on and those big houses are all abandoned and guess what. I can just walk on the property, pick a mango, sit under the same damn tree and eat it! No  fear of turkey.

Things are not that important. Always remember, you can’t take it with you. Don’t sit around and wait for something to happen. Live your life! Be responsible but enjoy the money you work so hard for.  You never know when you’ll take your last breath! Jus’ Sayin’

Happy Friday!!!
